A letter to the editor from Michael and Sandra Daumer.

We awoke on Christmas at 3:30 a.m. to the smell of smoke in our house. After searching some time for the source, we discovered a fire behind a hot wall. Our call at 4 a.m. to 911 was handled with the utmost courtesy by a true professional, who after soliciting the necessary information and determining if there were injuries, issued the alarm to the proper emergency personnel. Within minutes, five volunteer fire companies, the state police and our local EMT group responded. The fire was stubborn and the fire crews worked tirelessly for hours to open the wall, get to the source and extinguish the fire. Although it was bitter cold and early Christmas morning, not a soul complained and all involved gave 200 percent to help us in our time of need. Our sincerest thank you to all. We are very proud of each and every one of these unsung heroes and their organizations.
