Your Help Is Needed
Imagine if a fire broke out and nobody came to put it out. Sadly, this is becoming too close to reality. It takes many more fire departments to do the job that one used to do.
The Neffs Volunteef Fire Co. is in need of volunteers. Many people are needed to continue the proud tradition of protecting our precious community. The number of people in the department continues to dwindle due to relocation and other commitments. While the majority of our volunteers are firefighters, there are many other positions that need to be filled.
Please stop by any Monday night during training or call for more information on how you can help.

Firefighting
We train every Monday night and occasionally on other days. Schooling is usually obtained locally and is generally free of charge. Any classes within the scheme of our operation that aren’t free will be reimbursed after you successfully pass the class and obtain a certificate of completion. You will be outfitted with turnout gear and other personal protective equipment. Thus, the only real cost for you is your time invested.
It takes many hours of training and schooling to become a firefighter, However, it is well worth the time invested when you feel good about the job you’ve done to help a neighbor in need. We understand that time is a valuable asset but when you consider what that time can do for those in need, it’s all worth it.
Apparatus
The Neffs fire co. currently operates four fire “trucks.”
Engine 1611 is our workhorse for any fire within our fire district and some of the surrounding districts when we provide mutual aid.
Tanker 1621 compliments the engine by providing water. This truck carries approximately 5000 gallons of water and is usually called to assist other departments, even when our engine doesn’t go, because of the tremendous volume of water that it carries.
Squad 1651 gets a workout whether it’s along assisting at a fire or rolling out to assist with a medical call or helping with traffic control. This unit contains large amounts of equipment including and automated external defibrillator (AED), Air cylinders to re-fill air packs, communication equipment and fire police equipment, as well as some rescue related items. This truck also carries manpower and responds with the North Whitehall Township Rescue co. on all motor vehicle accidents when someone is trapped in their vehicle.
Tower 1631, our 87' rear-mount ladder/platform, is the newest “Pride of Park Ave.”
A great deal of time and effort is required to be able to learn all the capabilities and operating proceedures of our tower.
There are so many ways you can help that we don’t have room to list all of them, So why not step up and help your neighbors while helping your fire department. Don’t let someone else get the credit for a job well done. Join us and do the job well yourself.
Your local volunteer fire company helps to keep your taxes low because you don’t need to pay salaries or buy equipment and trucks with public money. In order to keep the taxes low, we need a lot of volunteer firefighters to perform many different functions.
Not everyone needs to enter burning buildings to be a firefighter. There are many other functions with the organization that need to be filled. Truck operators, fire police, and Office helpers are but a few of the other positions that need to be bolstered.
Of course, if you enjoy a little excitement in your life, you can be a front line firefighter and join the ranks of a fine and talented crew. This can be a very exhilarating experience. There is a great feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment when a fire is extinguished and you realize you may have helped to save someone’s property and kept the disruption to their lives that a fire can cause to a minimum. Firefighters don’t do this for the glory or for thanks…...We do it because we care about our community and the residents who inhabit it. Join us for a training sometime and get to know some of the “guys”. You’ll find that we are just like yourselves in most ways and you may even have a little fun, we always try to.
