Dave HammDave Hamm Honored

David Hamm joined the Neffs Volunteer Fire Company in 1961. On Sunday, February 6, 2011, friends, family and fellow firefighters gathered to celebrate David’s 50 years of active service. David joined as a young firefighter and quickly moved up the ranks eventually becoming chief of the company from 1972 to 1983. Aside from serving as chief, David noticed something very early in his fire service career: the need to keep the apparatus in good running order. The first rigs were placed in service but no one ever maintained them and led to the trucks not starting when an emergency sounded. READ MORE

New Fire Station Floor in Neffs, PA The Fire Station Floor

After two long months, the vehicles of Station 16 are back in quarters. A project to replace the entire concrete slab of the truck room was not a small task. Our project began Labor Day weekend to remove everything that occupied the truck room. All the items were placed inside a tractor trailer body for safe keeping.

Contractors spent more than a week jack hammering and removing the old 4 inch concrete slab and the embedded pipes of the old radiant heating system. It was re-excavated to accommodate a new 8" slab. The new concrete floor was poured and finished and the next step was the curing time that was needed for the concrete to be ready. When ready, the new slab was epoxy coated for a clean and durable surface. The addition of new gear racks was the finishing touch. The new floor is spectacular and will serve the department for decades to come.
